The wave surface for optical two axial crystal.


  

Mathematical description
Wave Fresnel's surface. Surface introduced by A. Fresnel in his work on crystal optics. It represents a wave front of light radiating from a point in a crystal. The surface consists of two shells which touch each other in four points. The space between the shells is filled in with plaster. The model is cut along an octant and a half octant to make the inner shell visible. As a complex algebraic surface, it has 16 double points (and is therefore a Kummer surface) 4 of which are real. Also 4 of the 16 double planes are real. The 4 intersections of this plane with the surface are the 4 circles drawn on the model. Surface for optical two-axis crystal.
