Since 1991 I am professor of Dynamical Systems at the University of Groningen working at the Department of Mathematics, as a part of the Johann Bernoulli Institute within the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of the University of Groningen. I am head of the group Dynamical Systems and Mathematical Physics. Most of my mathematical life was centered around Groningen University, where I took my master degree in 1974 and my PhD in 1979. I have been traveling quite a lot and have held visiting professorships at Boston University, during half a year in 1985, and several times one to two months at the UFRJ/IMPA (Rio de Janeiro), the Limburgs Universitair Centrum (Hasselt, Belgium), Universite de Bourgogne (Dijon) and the Universitat de Barcelona, since the mid-eighties. Also a lot of shorter visits were paid to these institutions, as well as to the Georgia Institute of Technology, Pennsylvania State University, the IMA (Minneapolis). For many years I acted as the scientific secretary of the Dutch FOM program Mathematical Physics, and as a member of the RTN European Network Mechanics and Symmetry in Europe and between 2005 and 2011 I served as the managing director of the NWO-cluster Nonlinear Dynamics of Natural Systems. For details also see my CV.
