    About the authors

    Ernst Wit is a Professor in Statistics at Lancaster University. He is heading the Medical Statistics Unit in the Mathematics and Statistics Department. His main interest involves statistical bionformatics, which combines the rigour of statistical inference with the demands of high dimensional computing in modern genetic applications, such as microarrays. Ernst Wit holds a Ph.D. in Philosophy (PennState U. 1997) and a Ph.D. in Statistics (U. of Chicago 2000) and is currently the secretary of the Research Sections of the RSS, reponsible for the discussion papers in the journals of the Royal Statistical Society. Before his current appointment he was at the University of Glasgow (2000-2005).

    John McClure is a lecturer in statistical genetics at the University of Glasgow. His research interests involve environmental statistics and statistical genetics. John McClure holds a Ph.D. in Statistics (U. of Glasgow, 2002).
