Knot theory and contact topology

Contact Topology is a rich branch in Differential Topology that has had an amazing growth during the last part of the 20th century. We will focus in low dimensional Contac Topology, where classical techniques take a very topological-flavour but where some results can be approached from a more computational perspective. In this talk we will give a brief introduction into the subject and will relate it to the study of Knot Theory. The intersection between these two worlds gives raise to the Theory of Legendrian knots. We will give a global perspective of the subject and discuss some recent results.
